Monday/Tuesday- September 27/28, 2021Part 1: Warm Up: Analyzing an App (Birthday App)
Take 3 min to go on Code Studio to try out the birthday app. by clicking the link bellow then answer the following questions down below: Journal Prompt: It has three possible outputs. Try to find each one.
|
Part 2:
Students will share how the app made the decision.
Part 4:
Review key vocabulary:
Processing - the thinking work computers do to turn input into output
Part 5:Question of the day: Just think about this for now.
Question of the Day: What are the different ways computers can process information?

Part 7:
What types of processing are needed to turn the input into the output?
Note: We will wait for class to answer before heading to the next question....
---------
How does this app use if/then and comparing to turn the input into output?
Part 8:
Now explore the "How many countries" app:

Note: We will wait for class to answer before heading to the next question....
---------
How does this app use if/then and comparing to turn the input into output?
Part 8:
Now explore the "How many countries" app:
- This app uses some different types of processing to make decisions. What kinds of processing might it use?
Part 9:
Share responses
Part 10:
There are lots of different types of processing that computers can use.
Today, we are going to focus on four basic types: If/then, comparing, finding a match, and counting.
Four Kinds of Processing:
Note: As you and your group move along the activity guide remember to understand how the input is used to generate the output of the app.
Part 11;
Break up into groups 2-4 please.
Part 12:
Move on to the next app and answer the question "How does it help turn input into output?" on the activity guide.

Part 10:
There are lots of different types of processing that computers can use.
Today, we are going to focus on four basic types: If/then, comparing, finding a match, and counting.
Four Kinds of Processing:
- If/Then - If something is true, do something else.
- Comparing - Check whether things are the same, or one is bigger than the other.
- Finding a Match - Search a list or group of things for a match.
- Counting - Keep track of how many of something there are.
Note: As you and your group move along the activity guide remember to understand how the input is used to generate the output of the app.

Part 17: Student appStudents come up with their own app ideas, using their previous app from the Inputs and Outputs lesson, or coming up with a new one. They then think of the types of processing that would be needed for those apps.
Part 18: Exit ticket: What Inputs and Outputs Do I Use?
We saw four different types of processing today, but there are many more.

We saw four different types of processing today, but there are many more.
- What’s another type of processing that you think would be useful?
- What kind of app might use it?
Thursday/Friday - Sept. 30/Oct. 1, 2021
Learning Objective:
Part 1: Analyzing an App (Outfit Picker) Journal Prompt: Go on Code Studio to look at the outfit picker app (app link located just below). Answer the questions on paper:
Note: As a class we will record the correct answers on the activity guide. |
Part 2:
Share responses "popcorn style." As a class we will write these answer on the board...
Part 3:

Part 4: Question of the Day: Have this in the back of your head as we move along the lesson.
Why is storage an important part of the computing process?
