Madam C.J. Walker created specialized hair products for African American hair care and was one of the first American women to become a self-made millionaire.
Annie Turnbo Malone a chemist and entrepreneur, became a millionaire by successfully developing and marketing hair products for Black women in St. Louis.
Marjorie Stewart Joyner was the inventor of the Permanent Wave Machine, thus ensuring her a prominent place in cosmetology history.
Marie Van Brittan Brown was the inventor of the first home security system.
Sarah Spencer was a hairdresser who started a hairdressing business in a small one-room beauty shop. She began to experiment with ingredients and later was granted a patent for a new process of straightening Black women's hair.
Gladys West is an American mathematician known for her contributions towards developing the Global Positioning System (GPS).
Bessie Coleman was the first black female pilot
There are countless other African Americans who've made a profound impact in history: self-made millionaire Madam C.J. Walker, astronaut Mae C. Jemison, open-heart surgeon Daniel Hale Williams, inventor Garret Morgan, media mogul Oprah Winfrey and "Father of Black History" Carter G.
