To Students: What does being tolerant mean?
If you are tolerant it means you are:
- Learning to appreciate and enjoy people who are different than you.
- Taking a stand when someone is being intolerant or being a bully, for example.
- Accepting that others don’t think the way you do and that you are okay with that.
- Not making negative comments or actions about others ethnic backgrounds, beliefs, or orientations.
These negative comments and actions are called micro-aggressions. We will discuss these more a little later.
